Script Notes: Historical script, modern font

Brahmi is an ancient script with many regional and chronological forms.

These forms are a standardized scholarly reconstruction and are not tied to a
single century or region.

Vowel length: In the Brahmi script tradition, the vowels e and o
are inherently long. There are no separate independent letters for short
e/o versus long ฤ“/ล. Modern Romanizations may show this distinction,
but it is not encoded in Brahmi orthography.

Typography: Brahmi characters on this page are rendered using
Noto Sans Brahmi , a Unicode typeface developed to represent standardized
Brahmi forms for digital use and comparative script study.
